The digital control pad automates table adjustments and is accurate to 0.005-inch, meaning you'll spend more time sanding than cranking handwheels and taking measurements. Also, the variable speed conveyor, adjustable oscillation controls, and adjustable graphite/felt platen easily allow the operator to 'tweak' the sander for soft, smooth finishes on all types of wood.

Adjustable Platen The platen controls on your sander allow for three basic types of sanding. Platen up, platen even and platen down. The platen up position is used for aggressive sanding when larger amount of material are to be removed whereas the platen even position is used for intermediate or final sanding, the down position leaves a smooth feathered finish.
Pneumatic Oscillation Control The W1738 is equipped with adjustable oscillation control. Often, you may find that certain oscillation speeds yield better results for different varieties of stock and the feed rates chosen. The oscillation speed is easily adjusted using the oscillation speed control knobs. A stream of air changes the oscillation direction, as soon as the sanding belt obstructs the stream of air, a piston changes the direction of belt movement to the left.
